About The Event

A farm stay in Sikkim is about 5 days in a pristine village in Sikkim with a stay planned in Tibetan-style rooms in an organic farm located 6,000 ft above sea level. The highlights include scenic views of the Himalayas as well as visits to Buddhist monasteries including the legendary Pemayangtse as well as Rabdentse ruins, the former capital of Sikkim. Visit local villages and bazaars to experience life in an idyllic Himalayan village.



Day-1 Arrival from Siliguri

615 AM- Departure by flight from Bangalore

915 AM- Arrive in Bagdogra (Siliguri)

A 4.5 hour drive will bring us to Yangsum Farm in West Sikkim. The farm stay in Sikkim is located near Rinchengpong. a small village in the hills of West Sikkim, 6,000 ft above sea level. None other than Rabindranath Tagore had spent a couple of days in this getaway in the 1920s. Rabindranath Smriti Van, the house where the poet stayed and enjoyed the scenic view of the Himalayas, is just 2 km from Rinchenpong bazaar.

630PM- Check in Yangsum Farm. The farmhouse was built in 1833 and remodeled in 1966

Day-2 Exploring the farm in Sikkim

The organic farm consists of open mixed forest of pine, Himalayan alder, chestnut, magnolia, rhododendrons, cherry and others. Cardamom, avocados, oranges, bananas, pears, apricots, mangoes, cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes and peas are also grown. During the cultivating season maize, paddy, millet, potatoes, ginger, turmeric, and sweet potatoes are produced. We can explore the 44 acres mountain farm which has pine, Himalayan alder, schima, chestnut, magnolia, rhododendrons, cherry and other trees. It is a working farm growing maize, paddy, millet, potatoes, ginger, turmeric, and sweet potatoes. In addition to these, seasonal vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes and peas are also grown. The farm is fully organic.

Day-3 Buddhist Monasteries

We will drive to Pemayangtse Monastery. The drive will take 90-100 minutes. It is the most important monastery of the Nyingmapa order and was built in the late seventeenth century by Lama Lhatsum Chenpo one of the revered Lamas to have performed the consecration ceremony of the first Chogyal (religious monarch) of Sikkim. The monastery houses numerous religious idols & other objects of worship. Donot miss visiting the top floor which houses a wooden structure depicting the Maha Guru’s heavenly palace (Sang-tok-palri), considered a masterpiece created by Late Dungzin Rimpoche.

Rabdentse was the second capital of Sikkim & was established in the late seventeenth century by the second Chogyal of Sikkim. It was abandoned towards the end of the eighteenth century because of the threat posed by Nepal & the capital was shifted to Tumlong. The Rabdentse Palace lies in ruins now. We trek about 2 kms from the main road near Pemayangtse monastery through a nature reserve to reach it. The reserve is a sanctuary for 106 species of birds.

Day-4 Village walk

Today we will visit local villages and Buddhist monasteries, some of them hundreds of years old. Watch young monks at their lessons or going about their chores. Spin prayer wheels, listen to chanting or just sit and enjoy the tranquility of these hilltop settings.

2PM- Depart from the farm by road.

630PM- Check in hotel in Siliguri

Day-5 Return to Bangalore

Departure from Bagdogra airport- 940AM Arrival in Bangalore- 1240PM
