Description

Here’s a flavorful 4-day travel plan from Lucknow to Varanasi, designed especially for food lovers who want to savour local snacks, delicacies, and street food in two of North India’s most iconic culinary cities:

Day 1: Nawabi Nosh in Lucknow – Street Food & Royal Flavours
Morning: Arrival in Lucknow
Check into a heritage hotel or homestay near Hazratganj or Gomti Nagar. Begin your journey with a glass of piping hot kulhad chai and samosas at Sharma Ji Tea Stall, a local favorite.

Midday: Tunday Kebabi & Old Chowk Exploration
Head to Aminabad for the legendary Tunday Kebabs—a melt-in-the-mouth galawati kebab served with rumali roti. Walk through the bustling chowk area, stopping for sheermal, mutton nihari, and kheer at century-old shops.

Evening: Royal Biryani & Sunset Snacks
Savor authentic Awadhi biryani at Idris or Wahid Biryani. End the day with kulfi falooda and a sweet paan from a local paanwala.
Day 2: Breakfast Bites & Departure for Varanasi
Morning: Lucknow Breakfast Trail
Start with a breakfast of khasta kachori, aloo sabzi, and jalebi at Ratti Lal or Bajpai Kachori Bhandar. Don’t miss a glass of fresh lassi with cream at Chowk.

Midday: Scenic Drive or Train Ride to Varanasi (Approx. 6 hrs)
Carry some bun-makkhan and nimish (makhan malai) for the road—light, creamy, and only found in Lucknow during winter.

Evening: Arrival in Varanasi & Dashashwamedh Ghat Visit
Reach Varanasi by evening, check into a guesthouse near Assi or Dashashwamedh Ghat. Head straight to the ghat for the Ganga Aarti, and then walk down the food street for tamatar chaat, dahi golgappe, and malaiyo if it’s winter.
Day 3: The Banarasi Thali & Street Snacking
Morning: Kachori Sabzi Breakfast & Gali Walks
Start early with kachori sabzi and jalebi at Ram Bhandar or Kashi Chaat Bhandar. Wander through the alleys near Vishwanath Temple, sampling chai in kulhads and banana chips fried fresh.

Midday: Banarasi Thali Lunch
Enjoy a sit-down Banarasi vegetarian thali at Baati Chokha or a local home kitchen experience—complete with sattu paratha, chokha, kadhi, baingan bharta, and gud ka halwa.

Evening: Lanes of Chowk & Godowlia
Return to Godowlia’s food lanes for spicy chura matar, banarasi samosa, and the irresistible rabri-jalebi combo. Wind down with a Banarasi paan and a peaceful walk by the ghats.

Day 4: Sweet Farewell & Food Souvenirs
Morning: Temple Darshan & Final Tastes
Visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple at dawn, followed by a breakfast of lal peda, thekua, and boiled gram salad from street vendors.

Midday: Local Market & Food Souvenir Shopping
Explore Thatheri Bazaar or Vishwanath Gali for edible souvenirs: pickle jars, masalas, Banarasi papad, sweets, and desi ghee treats. Grab one last kulhad of chai and soak in the chaos and charm of Banaras.

Departure
Head back with a full heart, a happy stomach, and bags of Banarasi treats to share.
